Organizing the Towel Closet

Affiliate Disclosure

The towel closet used to disgust me. I half-heartedly folded towels and washcloths because I knew they’d just get tousled. So the other day I simply determined I’d organize it.

My solution? Baskets! Honestly, baskets are great inventions. They’re attractive, they compact things into a specified location, and, if they’re the right size, they fit like neat little puzzle pieces. Oh and they can be stacked, utilizing vertical space as well!

I discovered these two canvas drawer-like baskets on clearance at Walgreen for $1. I labeled one “Dish Rags” and the other “Mess Rags.” This was mainly for my husband so when he needs a washcloth to get grease or oil on, he knows to get it from the basket very clearly labeled Mess Rags and NOT mess up the nice washcloths!

Here’s how I stuffed the Dish Rags (on the left) and the Mess Rags (on the right).

I found this really cute blue basket at the Dollar Tree. This is where I rolled up and stuffed the regular washcloths.

I bought this basket at Walmart for $3. It now holds our hand towels and flour sack towels, each one neatly rolled and placed so they’re easy to find.

So here’s the after shot of the shelf at the top of this post. Much tidier and easier to find everything!

As for the body towels, I have always rolled them up. They fit more compactly and neatly on the shelf when rolled. And it takes the same amount of time to roll them as it does to fold.

And here’s the Little Mister’s hooded towels and washcloths. My mom bought me this basket at Walmart for about $4 last year. It’s like a reusable, collapsible shopping basket. I noticed the other day that they have them back in stock this year.

And there’s my towel closet! I am much more satisfied with it now. It’s also nice when I’m folding towels and washcloths because I can grab the corresponding basket(s) and stuff them in as I fold them. So, what do you think? How do you organize your towel closet?
