Now that my boys are getting a little older and are able to do more things for themselves–such as hang up their own towels after taking a bath–I’m looking for ways to make it easier for them to do. Why? Because one of my life philosophies is that our things and our homes should serve us, not the other way around. So if I can make it easier for them to hang their towels, then they’ll be more likely to do it {hopefully without being bugged too much about it} and that, in turn, makes me a happier mom because that’s one less thing that I have to do! Double win!
The Mister and I recently made a towel rack with hooks for the kids. It consists of a pretty inexpensive piece of flat wood from Home Depot, three basic robe hooks, and some stenciled stuff {their first initial so they won’t fight over whose hook is whose, plus some rubber duckies and some bubbles so it matches their rubber ducky themed bathroom}. This simple rack makes it easier and faster to hang up towels to dry, but it has one downfall. If you don’t hang the towels just right {and let’s face it–kids typically don’t take the time to hang it up right the first time}, they fall off, thereby defeating the purpose of even having a rack at all. Which led me to the desire to put loops on them to make them much easier to hang up.
So, here’s how I did it!
What You Need
- a bath towel
- cotton twill tape cut to about 5″ long
- scissors
- a straight pin
- thread {make sure it matches the towel}
- sewing machine {and a bobbin with some of the thread on it}, optional {you could hand sew it instead}
What You Do
Voila! Just like that {takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes per towel) you have some handy dandy loops to hang up your towels!

My IKEA hand towels set the label focus on the long side, making a circle for hanging, and the hand towels have a circle sewn in. When I at last made sense of this I was close to myself with satisfaction. Best thought ever.

Thank you for sharing this. I am tackling my rv towels. My towels are in very good shape but NOT new. Is it ok to do this method with laundered not new towels?

I was wondering about doing this with laundered towels too ( funny – we’re doing this for our RV toweks also 😊)
I’m going to try and find out!

Yes, of course. You could do this with raggedy towels.
