Colored sugar gets pretty expensive. If you buy name brand colored sugar, expect to pay as much as $5 for a little bottle. Even the cheapest colored sugar I have found costs more than $1 for a little bottle. But why pay the cake decoration company to color sugar for you? It’s fun and easy to do yourself and makes a great kids’ activity.
Here’s what you need:
- 1/4 c. white granulated sugar per color
- bowls or plastic zipper bags
- liquid food coloring
- paper towels
Here’s what you do:
Put the sugar in small bowls (or plastic zipper bags). Add a couple drops of food coloring.
Using a fork (or your hands), mix the food coloring thoroughly into the sugar. If you’re using zipper bags, just mush it around to blend the food coloring.
Here are some of the colors I did.
Now, spread each color of sugar over a paper towel and let it dry overnight. Make sure none of your furry friends have access to it.
Here’s a perfect use for recycling prescription bottles (subliminal advertising for Walgreens).
