Fall is finally here (at least in our part of the world)! This season of enjoying the harvest and giving thanks has grown into one of my favorites (a very close second to spring). I love the changing colors of the leaves and the crisp smell in the air. And I really do enjoy the season’s popular flavors–including pumpkin!
Since my family and I plan on celebrating Thanksgiving at our house this year, I’ve been looking for ways to make it more cozy and, well, fall-like. One way of achieving a fall-inspired environment in our home is to make the air smell of it and the food burst with it’s flavor. And what better (and healthful) way to do that than to put my essential oils to good use?
If you’re a follower of my website, you already know that essential oils (the high-quality Young Living brand specifically) are great for using in cooking. Well, the blend that I tossed together consists of essential oils that are made using the same plants used to make common kitchen spices. And the resulting blend–my DIY pumpkin pie spice essential oil blend–is excellent to use in lieu of regular powdered pumpkin pie spice in traditional fall foods such as pumpkin pie or my to-die-for recipe for Pumpkin and Chocolate Pudding Parfait. And, as a bonus, while the pie is baking the house smells AMAZING–putting everyone in the fall time mood!
To use this essential oil blend in a recipe, simply replace each teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice with around 8 to 10 drops of pumpkin pie spice essential oil blend (more or less to taste).
Now, just before I hand this post over to the recipe, let me tell you about a little twist I added to this recipe that is completely optional–Orange Vitality essential oil. It adds just a hint of sweetness. But the oil blend tastes just as awesome even without the orange oil.
Happy fall, everyone!

Do you no how to make a good fragrance pumpkin spice oil for candles? Thanks : )

Hi, Wesley. This recipe should do using the non-Vitality oils. But then it’s more effective and longer lasting to diffuse it. 🙂

How would I use essential oils in my airwick plug ins. My airwick plug ins(three of them). got used up in only three weeks. Buying refils is rather expensive and was looking to use the empty bottles to try using essential oils as an alternative to the premixed store bought ones. I enjoyed the few I have triied Do you have a recipe I can use for pumpkin spice? I also like the smell of vanilla and coconut. Would I drop the oils in water prior to filling up the empty bottles? Thanks, Jan

How could I diffuse this scent?

We put a couple drops of peppermint EO in our half-and-half for December coffee. Do you think this blend is strong enough to work for that?
