One question that I am often asked by my readers is what the differense is between Young Living’s classic Home Diffuser and their bamboo-inspired Aroma Diffuser. Each of these essential oil diffusers are options for the bonus item that comes with the Premium Starter Kit. Besides the fact that the two diffusers look completely different, the kit containing the Aroma Diffuser is $10 more–which is part of the reason for the piqued curiosity about the differences. So I delved into the ins and outs of these two diffusers (helps now that I own one of each) and whipped up this post to give you a list of those differences.

The Home Diffuser

When I first joined Young Living, the only Premium Starter Kit there was was the one featuring the Home Diffuser (now there more options, with and without a diffuser). Back then (only about a year ago, lol), the diffuser was kinda outdated-looking with an 80’s-ish colored green lid. Yuck. I do have one of those old diffusers, and it works great, but I am much more pleased with how the new Home Diffuser looks. The thing I find negative about it is that there are three colors (purple, blue, and pink), but no way to choose which color you get. Which kinda makes it difficult to get one that matches or kinda matches the decor in the room you’re using it in (which to some people, who cares, but I’m a little OCD, so I do care!). However, it’s size and functionality make it perfect for use in bedrooms and bathrooms.

Now, here’s a list of some of the features that the Home Diffuser possesses:

• Two modes of operation. One mode is continuous diffusion for about 2-1/2 hours. The other mode is intermittent diffusion where it goes on and off every 30 seconds, making for about 5 hours worth of diffusion. To switch from constant to intermittent diffusion, press the button once or twice respectively. When the light is green, it’s in constant diffusion mode. When it’s red, it’s in intermittent mode.
  
• LED light. The diffuser has a handy LED light at the top inside the purple rose area. This is nice for setting ambiance, providing a night light when used in your kid’s bedroom, and so on. However, it’s VERY annoying when it’s in your own bedroom and you prefer darkness while you sleep (especially when it’s at nightstand level by your face). Fortunately, this newly design Home Diffuser’s LED light can turn off (on the old design, it could not)! Yippee! To turn it off, you simply hold in the button on the front for a couple of seconds and voila–no more light.
• Dimensions. About 5 inches in diameter by approximately 6 inches tall.
• Auto shut off. When the water in the reservoir reaches a certain low point, the diffuser automatically turns off.
• Water tank capacity. 125 ml of water, which is just over half a cup.
• Covered space. The diffuser is perfect for rooms up to 20 square meters (65 square feet).
• Weight. .39 kilograms or about 13 ounces.

The Aroma Diffuser

Tall and slick with a bamboo-inspired design, the Aroma Diffuser is beautiful and matches pretty much ANY decor. It is the diffuser I have selected to sit atop the fireplace mantel in our livingroom because it looks awesome with our country, shabby chic decor. This diffuser’s controls are located on the back so it looks even more seamless from the front.

Here is a list of some of the Aroma Diffuser’s qualities:

• Two modes of operation. 1 hour of continuous diffusion and 4 hours of continuous diffusion. There’s a button on the back that you push until you get to the setting you want.
• LED light. This diffuser also has an LED light that shuts on an off. To do so, simply push the obvious light button on the backside.
• Dimensions. Approximately 5 inches wide by 10 inches high and 3 inches deep.
• Auto shut off. Once the water in the reservoir reaches a specific low, the diffuser automatically shuts off.
• Water tank capacity. Approximately 1/2 cup.
• Covered space. Best in a room that is as big as 30 square meters (about 98 square feet).
• Weight. About 1/2 pound.
