With the new year comes new year’s resolutions. And one that my husband and I have decided to achieve together is to become more organized. And it is perfect timing to do so–he just got hired at a new job out of state, so we will be moving within the next month! Between that and having our second son, it will be a pretty stressful, rushed time! However, once it’s all said and done, we’ll have a new home in a new state and, therefore, a clean slate to work with (plus, having just moved, we’ll have gotten rid of a bunch of junk!).
One way I have been able to keep organized in the past is by keeping a Home Management Notebook (also known as a Home Management Binder; I’ll refer to it as an HMN for short from here on). I use this notebook presently, but not as extensively as I used to.
Well, when we resolved to become organized this year, I decided to revive my HMN to its fullest potential. So I purchased a new 3-ring binder, some plastic tabbed dividers (I hate the cheap cardstock ones for something I’m going to use often like my HMN), then designed a bunch of helpful papers to put to use in it.
Here’s how our HMN is organized (you can find printables for most of these items below):
- Front of Binder
- Quick Contacts
- plastic sleeve for business cards
- Tab 1: Finances

- instructions on how to use the washer and dryer for guests
What You Need for Your Own HMN
To make your own HMN, here’s what you’ll need:
- a binder (a 1-inch binder should do, but if you’re really stuffing it, get a thicker one)
- dividers (I like these plastic ones)
- zipper binder pocket (optional, but nice for storing pens and pencils for quick access)
- plastic sleeves for business cards (optional, but helpful for keeping important business cards)
- binder pockets (optional, but come in handy for several things)
- blank notebook paper (optional, but convenient for jotting things down)
- some (or all) of the free printables below

Hi thanks for taking the time to share your printables. Im excited to get organized..
Mommaraff says
I am making one right now 😀 thank you so much for the printables! While researching a lady told me she put copies of their social security numbers, drivers license numbers, and medical cards. I just used my copier and put the sheet in. This way when making appointments or filing out paperwork I no longer have to go searching for my purse and wallet and shuffle through it all. You could also just make a sheet and fill it out with all the information. Have a great day!

Wow, this is great! This is the mother load. I’m not sure if I missed it, but there could be a page with each of the families personal info. ss#, allergies, immunization record, including adults (tetnus) etc. Thank you for the free printables.
TJ says
Great ideas, Susan. I’ve been working on immunization records and adult medical records, just haven’t gotten around to adding them. I also have the same (or similar) pages plus a few more like these on my hobby (kinda inactive lately because I’m too busy) blog MyCountryFlair.com (http://www.mycountryflair.com/my-home-management-notebook-with-free-printables/) if you’d like to check them out as well. 🙂

Hi! I love love love your binders and thank you so much for sharing them!! I would love to print the cover for the home management binder but I think the link to it has a glitch? It doesn’t come up like the rest of your links and only prints in the upper left corner of the page. Thank You! 🙂
TJ says
Hi, Hannah! I’m sorry you’re having troubles. I talked to my husband (he’s a nerd with this stuff 🙂 and he says that it’s probably a setting with either your printer or your Adobe program. There’s nothing we can do on our part since it’s just a PDF. 🙁 Sorry I can’t be of much help.

Hey TJ!
I love your website. I ,too, am trying to get organized and your printables are just what I needed.
A previous commenter recommended a page for ss# , dl#s and med cards etc. I thought that would be handy. Also, regarding the cover page problem, I had to use my computer settings tab to print and had to change the margins and page view size to print. FYI, the cover page for the money binder worked just fine. Thank you for providing this information. I appreciate your hard work.
Keep on keeping on!
TJ says
Hi, Marjie! Ok, just added a new printable (yes, I’m slow!). It’s under Other and is titled “Important Numbers.” Hopefully it helps!
Debs says

I am looking for a printable to record the serial #’s and such for home furnishings such as t.v’s, blue ray players, and things of that nature. I didn’t realize how important that was, until I had a (partial) house fire and had no records to turn in to insurance. Also, along with that printable, somehow or somewhere, there needs to be a place to record the date of purchase and how much you paid for it, plus any warranty info. Thanks for all you do, I know it takes a lot of time, and time is a precious thing!
