DIY Laundry Stain Remover

Affiliate Disclosure

Oops. Just spilled on my white shirt…AGAIN. I think I subconsciously enjoy spilling stainy stuff all over myself when I’m wearing something white. Seriously. Sigh. Fortunately, a stain is no obstacle for me–not even with my natural living ways. Mwhahaha! With my homemade laundry stain remover, I regularly banish these evil stains. Take that, spilled stuff!

DIY Laundry Stain Remover

what-you-need

  • 1/4 cup Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap {I used the Peppermint variety as that’s what I had on hand, but any kind should do}
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 30 drops Young Living Lemon Essential Oil
  • glass essential oil safe spray bottle {it MUST be glass and essential oil safe as lemon essential oil is renowned for melting through regular plastic and other non-essential oil safe materials}

what-you-do

  1. Mix the liquid castile soap, baking soda, and and essential oil together in a glass bowl. Pour into the spray bottle {use a funnel if necessary}. Increase or decrease the amount of ingredients based on the size of spray bottle you have {but keep the ratios}.
  2. Before using, shake the bottle vigorously then spritz liberally over the stain. Allow to rest for no more than 5 minutes then immediately toss into the wash.

For Greasy Stains

If your clothes have super greasy stains {like those caused by oil}, first start by sprinkling on some cornstarch over the stain {the fresher the stain the better} and let it sit for about 10 minutes. This absorbs the excess oil. Then shake it {mostly} off and apply the stain remover spray.

I like to keep a small, 4-ounce mason jar of cornstarch with an old Parmesan cheese shaker lid on it near the washing machine for easy usage.

TIP

If you have something like one of these chalkboard labels on a jar of something and the stuff in that jar is never going to change {such as the laundry stain remover or the laundry cornstarch or the laundry soap or the salt or the whatever} then, rather than write on the label with a typical washable chalk marker, write on it with a white {or pretty color} paint marker instead {just be sure it dries completely before you touch it}. Voila! Permanent writing. Yay!
